Every year on November 11th, Canadians pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of our Veterans. Remembrance Day is a moment to reflect with gratitude – to remember those who served, those who continue to serve, and those who gave their lives in the name of freedom.

At 11 a.m., we observe a nationwide moment of silence to commemorate the end of the First World War and to recognize the bravery of all who have defended Canada in times of conflict and peace. The poppy, a powerful symbol of remembrance, reminds us of the resilience and dedication of those who stood for something greater than themselves.

The History of Remembrance Day in Canada

Remembrance Day was first observed in 1919, marking the first anniversary of the Armistice that ended the First World War. Originally known as Armistice Day, it became Remembrance Day in 1931, expanding its meaning to honour every Canadian who has served in the Armed Forces, in past and present missions.

Across the country, Canadians gather at cenotaphs, memorials, and local ceremonies to reflect on the cost of freedom and to express enduring gratitude to those who have worn the uniform. It’s a day of unity, humility, and national pride.

Supporting Veterans Beyond November 11th

At Canada House Clinics, Remembrance Day is more than a single date on the calendar – it represents a year-round commitment to those who served. We understand the lasting impacts that military service can have on both physical and mental health, and we’re proud to support Veterans through medical cannabis education and care.

Many Veterans don’t realize they may be entitled to medical cannabis coverage through Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) as part of their healthcare benefits. Cannabis can play a meaningful role in managing conditions such as chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, and sleep disorders, helping Veterans improve their quality of life in a safe, guided, and compassionate environment.

Our team works closely with Veterans to ensure they understand their treatment options and never have to navigate the process alone. From medical authorization to VAC coverage and dosage guidance, we’re here to help every step of the way.

Honouring the Spirit of Service Every Day

While November 11th gives us a chance to pause and remember, at Canada House, we honour the spirit of service every day of the year. Our mission is rooted in respect, compassion, and the belief that every Veteran deserves access to safe, effective, and individualized care.

To show our appreciation this Remembrance Day, we welcome all Canada House Veteran clients to visit their local clinic location and receive a limited-edition “Canada House” tactical knife – a small token of our gratitude.

From everyone at Canada House Clinics:
Thank you for your service. We are here for you – today, and always.
