When smoking or vaping cannabis is just not strong enough, Rosin can be a great option for symptom control. Like Bubble Hash, Rosin is a clean and solventless extracted form of cannabis. Rosin is processed mechanically by applying only heat and pressure to press the resinous honey-like syrup from the cannabis plant. You may notice two options of Rosin from your Licensed Producer, Rosin and/or Live Rosin. The difference between the two is potency of terpenes and how fresh after harvesting it was pressed. Consumers feel there is a superior taste to the Live Rosin, both still provide potent levels of phyto- cannabinoids (60%-80%).

Rosin Options

Flower Rosin: Cured/Dried flower, trim, kief

Hash Rosin: Two step process, hash is a solid extraction/concentrate made into another extraction/concentrate in liquid form.

Live Rosin: Freshly harvested, or fresh frozen flower, trim, kief or hash.

How to Make Rosin/Live Rosin

Rosin utilizes a high quality, de-stemmed product, heat, and a slow application of pressure. The output is a honey-like product for inhalation or ingestion. The buds selected for pressing should have relative humidity between 55%-62%. If the bud is not in an optimal humidity, it will make or break your output. Temperature of extraction varies 170℉ – 220℉, temperature depends on type of product you are pressing, the cannabinoids, and personal preference. Lower temperatures provide a budder/batter consistency. Higher temperatures provide an oilier consistency. If properly done, rosin will have large quantities of the plant’s terpene profile. Do not forget your boiling temps when extracting terpene content. Time pressed is also a factor that contributes to the quality and quantity of the final product, anything pressed above 90 seconds leaks lipids into the rosin, decreasing quality of the result.

In larger facilities, where large amounts are pressed at a time, micron bags are used for pressing. These bags are mesh and lock the cannabis material in the bag, allowing for separation of rosin from plant material. They come in different micron sizes so you can press different plant materials. Larger quantities of cannabis generally go through a pre-press process after being placed in a micron bag. This packs your bag tight and evenly distributes the flower. Even distribution reduces filter bag blowouts (ruptured bags during the pressing process) and increases yield. Rosin can be made by  users of any experience level.

How to Use Rosin/Live Rosin

Rosin can be smoked in dab rigs, sprinkled on top of your bowl in pipe or bong, spread within a joint, or vaped. Some consumers add it right into their edibles. The number one method of consumption for Rosin is through a dab rig. A dab rig is a type of pipe/water pipe like a bong, but it specific for cannabis concentrates. Dab rigs do not directly apply heat to the product, but instead heat a surface to vaporize the concentrate.
