Cannabis Edibles and Education
There are many different methods of how you can take your medicinal cannabis. Lately, the more common method is edibles, so it is important to know the different types. Taking edibles as a medicinal form of cannabis will affect you differently than smoking. The effects will depend on many different factors like potency, your body’s tolerance level and how much you have eaten to name a few. Many people can be surprised by the potency and the long lasting effects of edibles. A good strength for beginners is 10-15mg per dose and 30-100mg daily of active cannabinoids. Different effects can be experienced depending on the strain. Some may experience high anxiety and paranoia where some may find relief of these symptoms, so it is important to find a strain that works well for you and stick with it. Cannabis is a personalized experience and varies per person.
During the cooking process edibles receive some form of exposure to heat. In order to convert the inactive cannabinoids THCA & CBDA plus many others into active cannabinoids such THC and CBD along with others, you need to do a process called decarboxylation. Decarboxylation is the process of exposing the cannabis to a certain temperature of heat for a certain period of time. Edibles are an ideal and great alternative method of medicinal cannabis as many people do not like the negative effects of smoking or vaping. Edibles can help with many conditions such as Chronic Pain, Nervous System disorders, Auto Immune system disorders, Insomnia, Anxiety and many more.
Types of Edibles
- G.I Tract – The most common edible is absorbed through the G.I Tract or Stomach. Examples are Cookies, Brownies, Capsules and many other infused foods. This method can take awhile to take effect sometimes up to 2 hours but tend to last longer up to 8 hours.
- Sublingual – Edibles that you hold in your mouth for an extended period are absorbed through the sublingual ducts under your tongue. Examples are Lozenges, Gum, Suckers, tinctures and many others. This method can have effects immediately and last up to 3 hours.
- Hybrids – These edibles are designed to be absorbed through the GI tract and sublingually. Some examples are Infused drinks, chocolate bars etc. They tend to take about ½ hour to feel effects and can last up to 4 hours.
