What is Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC)
Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) is a federal department dedicated to supporting Veterans, still-serving members, and their families. VAC provides financial benefits, health coverage, rehabilitation, and wellness services to those who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).
For Veterans living with physical or psychological injuries, VAC can provide 100% coverage for medical cannabis —as long as the proper paperwork is completed and approved.

Why VAC Benefits Matter for Veterans
Transitioning out of the military can be overwhelming. Injuries, mental health challenges, and the stress of navigating new systems all add up. VAC ensures that those who served receive the treatment, resources, and recognition they deserve.
Yet, the process of applying for benefits can be complex, with multiple forms, medical questionnaires, and strict timelines. That’s where Canada House Clinics (CHC) steps in.

How the VAC Claims Process Works
Making a claim for VAC coverage and benefits involves several steps:
- Submit an application – Online via My VAC Account, by mail, fax, or in person. Forms are available here.
- Healthcare provider review – A doctor or nurse practitioner must complete sections of the form.
- Medical questionnaire – Within 8–10 business days, you’ll receive a questionnaire to be filled out by your healthcare team.
- Submit documentation – Return via My VAC Account, fax, mail, or at a local VAC office.
- Decision letter – VAC approves or denies your claim based on impairment level and impact on quality of life. You’ll receive a letter by mail or through your account.
If denied, or if the benefit level is lower than expected, Veterans have the right to appeal. Learn more about VAC payout rates here.
At Canada House, we walk you through every step—removing the guesswork and ensuring your paperwork is done right the first time.
