Today we are talking about one of the most notorious cannabis strains known to consumers throughout the world, Pineapple Express.
Some people believe it originated from meteorology. Which a natural phenomenon causes strong moist winds to flow across tropical regions such as the Hawaiian Islands, causing torrential downfalls. Depending on the severity of these natural rainfalls, it could result in drastic flooding and intense damage to local facilities. Some people say it was named after the natural occurrence because the one strain Hawaiian – where many occurrences happen and the other strain Trainwreck – referring to the damage it causes.
Another theory comes from the famous movie Pineapple Express starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, which aired in 2008. During the late-night comedy, Dale (Seth Rogen) had picked up a new strain named Pineapple Express, off his dealer Saul (James Franco). He described it as the “dopest dope he’s ever smoked”. Later that evening when smoking a joint, Dale witnesses a murder and quickly tosses the newly sparked joint in a panic. The criminals end up finding the Pineapple Express spliff which turns into a series of comedic events.
What we do know.
In the mid 2000’s G13 Labs, a cannabis seed company claimed they made the ultimate Pineapple Express strain. Combining two sativa hybrids; Trainwreck and Hawaiian which gave birth to Pineapple Express, five years prior to the release of Pineapple Express the movie. G13’s mission was to grow a comparable marijuana strain like the one in the stoner comedy. Once the movie premiered, it caused a storm of popularity throughout California, and many medical marijuana stores wanted Pineapple Express. After a while other companies decided to hop on the bandwagon and make their own Pineapple Express strain which lead into a world of cannabis cocktails.
Pineapple Express is a high THC Sativa strain, providing a citrusy and sweet flavour along with an energizing europhoria. Medical patients at Canada House report this strain has assisted with their depression, lack of motivation and decreased their body discomforts for those who were suffering from pain.
Was it the movie or meteorology that made this strain one of the most recognizable name in cannabis? Unfortunately, we will never know. But, what we do know is it has become an iconic symbol for cannabis medical and recreational consumers around the world.
